I could have sworn there was a news story about a pizza delivery guy that had a bomb placed on him and was forced to rob a bank. Could have sworn that he got blown up.

The producers and writers claim it is not based on a real event. It does seem to closely resemble the bizarre news story of the death of a pizza delivery driver named Brian Douglas Wells, who died on August 28, 2003 from an explosive device, after he was apprehended by police after a bank robbery.
